Gail began her insurance career working for a State Farm agent before joining the wholesale side of the industry with Jerry Roush in 1978. She processed endorsements and cancellations, then moved into underwriting shortly thereafter. Gail enjoys the daily challenges of ‘weird’ accounts that require a lot of thought and investigation to rate and underwrite. She earned the CPIW (Certified Professional Insurance Woman) and AINS (Associate in General Insurance) designations and has completed some CPCU classes. Gail has been volunteering with The Humane Society for Hamilton County since 2000, where she socializes cats, assists with their adoption and trains new cattery volunteers. She also volunteers her time feeding controlled community cat colonies and assists with spaying and neutering stray and feral cats.
After graduating from Indiana University, Scott was employed in the auto rental industry for ten years. His experience working with insurance agents and claim representatives arranging car rentals for insureds and claimants led him to a career change. Scott has been with Roush Insurance since 2000 and took an immediate interest in commercial property and casualty. With over twenty years of underwriting experience in the wholesale industry, he still considers every day an opportunity to learn and build relationships. Away from the office, Scott enjoys golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Dave spent sixteen years in outside sales with Terminix Pest Control and Linc Systems, an industrial tool distributor, before joining Roush Insurance in 2004. He obtained his producer license and began his insurance career as a commercial property and casualty underwriter before broadening his knowledge with professional liability, environmental, and transportation. Dave has been known to pick up a golf club on occasion, and in addition to handling an extensive 'honey do' list, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and listening to and playing music.
Carolyn has held various positions in management and accounting during her career. She came to Roush Insurance in August 2018 to explore the field of insurance. Carolyn says she is 'thrilled with her choice to pursue this profession as it is always growing, expanding and changing, making it never boring.' Starting as a policy processor, Carolyn has advanced to commercial underwriting assistant where she continues to expand her insurance knowledge and develop her underwriting skills. She is a mother of six with seven grandchildren (so far!) and enjoys camping and traveling with her husband.
After almost twenty-five years in purchasing and inventory control, Linda decided it was time for a change. She started her insurance career with Roush Insurance in 2001 as an underwriting assistant and worked in the policy processing department before becoming a personal lines underwriter. Over twenty years later, Linda affirms she has not regretted her decision. She 'loves the outdoors' and spends her vacation time visiting national parks. Linda has driven through all forty-eight states in the continental United States and half a dozen Canadian provinces. She also likes to listen to music and read.
Kathy has been in the insurance industry since 1975 where she worked at the Hartford Insurance Company in New Jersey. The Squirlock family moved to Indiana in 1992. Kathy worked for CNA Life Insurance for over seven years prior to joining Roush Insurance in March of 2004. She was married for over forty-five years to her husband Steve, and they have two children. Kathy enjoys spending time with her children and 'grand pets', traveling, and tending to her extensive variety of house plants.
Amanda describes herself as 'an experienced customer service representative eager for more knowledge and experience'. She started her insurance career with Roush Insurance in 2021. Amanda likes learning about the different aspects of the industry and is excited to see where this new adventure takes her. She is happy to be enjoying life at a slower pace after spending most of her adult career in the food industry and restaurant management. Amanda finally has the freedom to do more of the things she loves, including cooking, interior decorating, movie nights, spending quality time with her two children, and most recently perfecting her craft as a newly certified nail technician.
Erica joined Roush Insurance Services in 2021 after being in the restaurant industry for over twenty-five years. As part of the Customer Service team, she continues to expand her insurance knowledge and develop new skills. Erica lives on a small farm with her husband, goats, several chickens, a donkey, two dogs, and two cats. Erica loves to garden, make soaps and lotion from her goats' milk, and is an avid runner who recently completed her first 5k race and won first place in her age group.
Brenda has several years of experience in the insurance industry, starting at the company level and then at a retail agency before taking a break to raise a family. She returned to the workforce in the title insurance field and later medical malpractice. Brenda joined Roush Insurance over thirty years ago and now works part-time processing cancellations and policy changes. Being with and caring for family, including grand and great-grandchildren, is her primary focus and source of enjoyment when not working. Brenda's favorite pastime is reading or just doing nothing at all.
Winnie joined Roush Insurance in October 2000 when Nyla Roush 'stole' her from Community Bank, where she had been employed for over twenty-five years working at several locations in Muncie and Noblesville. She is married and has a stepson, son and daughter-in-law, and an 'awesome granddaughter' who was born in 2021. Winnie plays billiards three times a week, rides a motorcycle trike, and loves to read. In addition to her typical bookkeeping responsibilities, Winnie also handles audit collections.
Karl joined Roush Insurance in 2021 after switching careers from manufacturing to software development and successfully completing the Eleven Fifty Academy's Software Development Immersive Learning Program. He enjoys visiting family and working on personal development projects. Karl's claim to fame is being ranked number one on the US East server for team 4v4 in Warcraft 3. He and his wife welcomed a daughter into their family in 2022.
Cody joined Roush Insurance in 2013 and has an A.S. degree in Business Administration and a B.C.S. in Information Technology. He has an extensive background in telecommunications and networking and has earned multiple technology and marketing certifications. Cody's broad expertise makes him an important asset as he takes the lead with our cloud migration and integration projects. In addition to heading up automation, Cody administers the agency's networks, servers, databases, etc. On a personal level, Cody enjoys hockey and following the Chicago Blackhawks, the challenge of cooking, and taking long nature hikes with his sons and dog, in addition to spending quality time with his family.
Gabe obtained his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago and passed the Illinois CPA examination. After beginning his career with Affiliated Banc Group, he worked for The Quaker Oats Company for nine years and was Supervisor of Purchasing Accounting when he left to join Roush Insurance in March 1996. Gabe was instrumental in the agency's automation efforts, designing and implementing databases and quote worksheets. He has an in-depth understanding of wholesale insurance and shares responsibility for training commercial lines staff and marketing. Gabe earned the ASLI designation in 2004. He is married to Melanie (Roush) Derzhavets and is part owner of the agency. In his spare time, Gabe enjoys bicycling, boating, swimming and spending time outside.
Melanie is the daughter of Jerry and Nyla K. Roush. She was valedictorian of her Noblesville High School class, earned a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University, then started her career with The Quaker Oats Company. She passed the Illinois CPA examination and became Manager of Transportation Services before leaving to join the family business in March 1996. Melanie was Chairperson of the Young Agents Committee of IIAI when they were voted best in the Nation for the third year in a row. She was named IIAI Chairperson of the Year in 2002 and Young Agent of the Year in 2003. Melanie earned the ASLI designation in 2004. She manages the agency's operations and is instrumental in driving efficiency through improved automation. Melanie enjoys cooking, gardening, attending Pure Barre and Zumba classes, and spending time outdoors, especially on her bicycle or paddle board.
Jerry and Nyla K. Roush founded Roush Insurance Services, Inc. in 1990. Their goal was to establish a managing general agency staffed with special risk professionals known for excellence in underwriting. Jerry entered the insurance industry in 1971 as a retail agent before becoming part owner of a managing general agency that grew to nearly seven times its original size. Nyla’s extensive accounting, legal and office management experience included three years in a retail insurance agency. Their combined talents and hard work lead to great success, and our current vision is an extension of their achievements.
Melanie Roush and Gabriel (‘Gabe’) Derzhavets left successful careers at The Quaker Oats Company to join the agency in 1996. They both earned their Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) designations in 2004. Melanie was Chair of the Indiana Young Agents Committee when it was voted best in the nation for the third year in a row at IIABA. She was IIAI Chairperson of the Year in 2002 and Young Agent of the Year in 2003, also serving on the Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company Agent Advisory Board. She is President of the agency and oversees the agency’s operations. Gabe is Vice President of the agency and oversees underwriting. He regularly participates in carrier focus groups to assist in the development and testing of their rate/quote/bind/issue systems and provide feedback on proposed underwriting guideline changes. Melanie and Gabe are committed to ensuring the agency remains independent and upholding the high standards upon which it was founded.
Agency Logo
The Rausch Coat of Arms of Bavarian origin was selected as the agency logo because it signifies the family’s rich heritage and embodies the principles upon which the business was founded. An excerpt from the Roush (Rausch) and Allied Families Association of America, Inc. explains the meaning of the colors as recorded in Rietstap’s Armorial General:
- Or – gold, denotes generosity and elevation of mind.
- Ppr – purple, proper or natural color.
- Vert – green, represents hope, joy and loyalty in love.
- Gules – red, signifies military strength and magnanimity.
- Argent – silver, signifies peace and sincerity.
